✨ December in the Bookshop: Wins, Wobbles, and What I Learned

December always feels like a story within a story — part twinkle lights and peppermint mochas, part organized (and sometimes unorganized) bookish chaos. Running Page After Page Books during the holiday season is its own adventure, and this year reminded me just how magical, messy, surprising, and meaningful this dream really is.
So here’s a peek behind the scenes at what December really looked like:
the wins, the wobbles, and the lessons I’m carrying with me into the new year.
🎉 The Wins
The sparkle moments — the ones that made me stop and breathe and think, “Okay… maybe I’m doing something right.”
✨ Blind Date With a Book Season
December is truly the Super Bowl of Blind Dates. From cozy romances to thrillers, the joy people feel when they open a mystery pick makes every late night worth it. A favorite message this month:
“Can’t wait to see what Sharon picked!”
Those moments hit me right in the heart.
✨ Pop-Up Excitement
Preparing for my December 21st pop-up event filled the shop with buzzing energy. Seeing people excited for an in-person visit reminds me this bookstore isn’t just digital — it’s a real, growing community.
✨ Reader Love
A DM. A tag. A shared book mail photo. Tiny moments, powerful impact. These are the heartbeat of this shop.
😅 The Wobbles
Because let’s be honest — the holiday season isn’t all snowflakes and sparkles.
📉 The Engagement Dip
Instagram in December feels like shouting into a snowstorm. Algorithms shift, people get busy, and it definitely left me wondering, “Is anyone even seeing this?” more than once.
⏳ The To-Do List
January boxes, pop-up prep, graphics, inventory, my day job, my podcast… December made multitasking feel like an Olympic sport.
💭 The Doubt
Every small business owner knows this feeling.
“Am I giving so much and not getting enough back?”
It crept in now and then, but those moments became little teachers instead of roadblocks.
✨ What December Taught Me
❤️ The people who show up matter most.
Every order, comment, and shared unboxing is someone saying, “I believe in your dream.”
❤️ Growth isn’t just numbers.
Sometimes the real growth is internal — handling stress better, adapting, learning, being proud of yourself for still showing up.
❤️ Connection is the core of the bookstore.
Whether someone joins the Broadcast Channel or unwraps a Blind Date you curated just for them, these connections are the magic of Page After Page Books.
📚 Looking Ahead
December may be chaotic, but it always fills me with possibility.
January boxes are coming, Blind Dates are brewing, a pop-up event is around the corner, and my little bookstore is stepping into a new year full of intention and sparkle.
If you’re reading this — thank you. You’re part of the story, part of the dream, and part of the reason I keep going.
Here’s to softness, success, messy magic, and books that feel like home.
✨ With love,
Sharon @ Page After Page Books
